A fire at Keys Boat Works in Marathon Saturday night burned a number of boats and damaged the marina as well.

Reports are not yet complete, but dispatch notes indicate at least 5 to 6 boats burned during the fire, which also spread to the marina itself. It appears the fire may have started on board a 39 foot vessel called "Sand Piper" out of St. Petersburg. A witness told Deputy Chris Frasier he saw sparks and heard a loud "bang" noise from the boat before seeing flames coming from it just before 10 p.m.

Firefighters had the fire under control by 11:30 p.m. and it appears that no one was hurt. The Fire Marshall's Office will be investigating.
