Marathon - A Marathon man, caught taking the lower unit from a boat motor, was arrested Thursday night.
An alert citizen called the Sheriff's Office just before 10 p.m. to report seeing a man in the boatyard at Keys Boat Works on 39th Street. He said he didn't think anyone should be there that late. The owner of the boat yard concurred and said no one should be there.
Deputies arrived and found 40 year old John Liddy working on a boat motor. He had the lower unit from the motor removed and had placed it in the back of his van. He told the deputies he was doing work for the owner of the boat. The out of town owner was contacted, as was a caretaker who watches the boat for him. Both men said Liddy had no business working on the boat.
Liddy was arrested, charged with burglary and theft and he was booked into jail. Liddy operates a business called “Liddy’s Mobile Marine Service” and was in his business van at the time he committed the crime. The van and his tools were seized.
